Welcome to our blog!
Katie and I would like to share our story as we prepare for our first born child, due in August 2010. We were only just married in June 2009, so this was quite a surprise for us as newlyweds!
Some friends of ours put on a very posh and sophisticated 'holiday party' each December, and Katie and I were excited to attend this year. Last year, we felt a bit underdressed, so this year we wanted to make sure we stepped it up a bit.
Now, this party is by no means close by... in fact, it is about a two hour drive to get there! We were on our way when Katie asked me if we could stop at the mid-point of the trip because she was concerned. Since this is a party where our friends have no shortage of supplies for making cocktails, and insist on keeping one in your hand at all times (very generously poured, might I add...), she wanted to stop and pick up some 'tests'.
Thinking this was rather silly but wanting to appease my wifes concerns, we stopped at the lovely french store known as Target (pronounced: Tahr-jey). So there I am, standing in front of the food court at Target, meanwhile my lovely wife was performing her test in the restroom. We certainly must be the best-dressed individuals to ever set foot in the store. In fact, I received several surprised glances as people entered the store, looked up as the automatic doors opened to see me standing there, probably assuming I was the newest addition to the Target family as a fancy door-greeter.
Katie emerged from the restroom, with a look on her face that I haven't seen since I had proposed to her in Hawaii fourteen months prior. We shared a long hug and choked down some tears, and set out for the party.
This all occurred on December 12th, 2009.
Katies Editorial Note: Tim was so distracted by this news that upon leaving Target and stopping at the gas station for a quick fill-up of fuel, he forgot to put the car in park and as he was inputting his credit card, the car began to roll away from the pump. Luckily, Katie alerted him just in time.
Tim's Editorial Note: I wanted Katie to practice "keeping a secret" with me before we got out of the car and went inside to enjoy the party with our friends. We practiced what to say if someone offerred or encouraged her to have a cocktail, or if they asked why she wasn't going to have one. Once I felt comfortable, we went inside... only to have the host immediately ask why Katie didn't want something to drink. Katie burst into a giggle, looked over her shoulder at me, and I quickly had to jump in with a story about her stomach not feeling well and perhaps some food would be good first. Luckily, nobody was the wiser... but I don't think my lovely wife has much of a career ahead in acting!
